人が無意識に関わるものに興味がある。写真を撮影し、慣習的に理解をしていたものに目を向け、そこに新たな理解や、未だ見ぬ世界を見ようとする。触れることができる近さ、眼差すことができる遠さ。それは、私たちが無意識に関わる距離である。私はそれら「無意識に関わるもの」を対象として、新たな理解を探究する。

写真によって、見つめることとなった慣習的な理解は、私への問いとなり、作品となり、またそれらは、見る人にとっての新たな理解へと続くのではないかと考えている。写真は新たな理解をもたらすのか。そうした写真とは何かを、探し続けている。

I’m interested in things with which people unconsciously interact. When I take a photograph, I turn my eyes to conventionally understood subject matter with the goal of perceiving it in a new way and attempting to glimpse a previously unseen world. We interact with these things at an unconscious distance: close enough to touch, yet far enough away to apprehend. I focus my work on these objects of unconscious interaction in order to pursue new types of understanding.

Nowadays, the act of looking has become a stand-in for conventional understanding. rough photography, I turn this act into a question directed at myself, into an art object which perhaps has the potential to lead the viewer toward a new way of comprehending the world around us. Can a photograph accomplish this? My practice is a continuous process of searching for one that can.
