私たちは自然とどのようにして関わっているのか。2015 年に出会った大雨を起点として、人と自然の交わりというものが、気づかないままに生起しては、目に触れることもなく、触れたとしても忘れてしまっているような状況が、数え切れないほどに存在するのではと思ったのだ。自然があること以外、取り立てて目を引くものがない場所に向かい、あるかもしれない見ず知らずの自然を探していく。 それらは、ただ一つと感じるように固有であり、 潜むようにそのままだった。 そういった無名の場所でこそ、これまで知り得なかった自然の輪郭や様子、人と自然の間に起こる交差のようなものが写るのではと思ったのだ。

写真を撮ったあと自然も私も続いている。対象を 2枚、3枚と「続き」のように撮影している。一つの自然を、より多くの視点を持って見たいと考えている。続きの写真を撮ることは、その後の人と自然の交差を考える手掛かりになるのではと思っている。

生活をしていた場所が自然に還ることは案外容易い。住む人が離れると、雨と土と共に自然は還ってくる。そんな光景を目の当たりにするたびに、今私が住んでいる場所もまた、交差の途中であると思えてならない。人と自然の交わりを探しては、写真を撮っている。

What is our relationship to nature? The experience I had with the heavy rains in 2015 was a starting point for me to begin thinking about how people and nature interact in ways that often go unnoticed, or if noticed, are quickly forgotten. I think there are countless moments like this. I seek out places where nothing but nature exists, searching for a strangeness that may exist in its depths. These places seem to be unique, but this characteristic remains hidden below the surface. It is precisely in these nameless places where previously unknown contours of nature become visible, and the intersection that occurs between people and the natural world is reflected.

Once photographed, both the natural world and I continue onward. The subject is photographed 2 or 3 times with this idea of “continuation” in mind. I want to see this singular subject of nature from more perspectives. These continuous photographs might offer a clue for thinking about subsequent intersections between people and nature.

It is unexpectedly easy for a place where one lived to return to nature. Once the inhabitants depart, nature returns with rain and earth. Every time I encounter such a scene, I can’t help but think that the place where I live now is also in the middle of this intersection of forces. As I search for these interactions between people and nature, I take photographs.
